{"id":1180,"date":"2012-08-22T14:01:44","date_gmt":"2012-08-22T19:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/?p=1180"},"modified":"2012-08-22T14:01:44","modified_gmt":"2012-08-22T19:01:44","slug":"the-night-storm-approaches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/the-night-storm-approaches\/","title":{"rendered":"The Night Storm Approaches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I had to work late last night, and on the way home, I stopped downtown for a few minutes for some night shots with the Olympus 75mm f\/1.8.\u00a0 I wasn&#8217;t really planning anything special, and as I turned to head back to the car, I noticed that in the otherwise clear night, clouds were gathering just above the horizon.\u00a0 The moon was placed nicely above them, and I started taking a few pictures of the clouds and the moon, when I noticed a subtle pink flash in the clouds&#8230;.this was an approaching storm.\u00a0 I framed up a good shot in my viewfinder, steadied myself (it was night, afterall, and even with the great in-body stabilization of the OM-D, I needed to be steady at these shutter speeds).\u00a0 Since I didn&#8217;t have my tripod with me, nor a lightning trigger, I basically had two options to get the shot I wanted: Get Lucky, or be fast for an extended group of flashes.\u00a0 Well, I wasn&#8217;t lucky in guessing when the lightning would flash, but I was quick enough on exactly one capture, where the lightning flashed several times in quick succession, which yielded the shot I was going for, which is pictured below.\u00a0 Patience was rewarded!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1181\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1181\" style=\"width: 578px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/lightning_clouds.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1181\" title=\"The Night Storm Approaches\" src=\"http:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/lightning_clouds.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"578\" height=\"782\" srcset=\"https:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/lightning_clouds.jpg 578w, https:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/lightning_clouds-221x300.jpg 221w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 578px) 100vw, 578px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1181\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Night Storm Approaches &#8211;
