{"id":1267,"date":"2012-09-21T19:29:21","date_gmt":"2012-09-22T00:29:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/?p=1267"},"modified":"2012-09-21T19:29:21","modified_gmt":"2012-09-22T00:29:21","slug":"super-quick-iphone-5-low-light-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/super-quick-iphone-5-low-light-test\/","title":{"rendered":"Super Quick iPhone 5 Low Light Test"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_1268\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1268\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/iphone5camera.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1268\" title=\"iphone5camera\" src=\"http:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/iphone5camera-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/iphone5camera-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/iphone5camera-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/iphone5camera.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1268\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The 8 megapixel shooter on the new iPhone 5<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Like millions of other people, I got a new iPhone 5 today. \u00a0While there are a number of improvements to the phone itself, since this is a photography site, I thought I&#8217;d give a quick peek at the camera. \u00a0I will probably do a review of the iPhone 5 camera in the future, comparing it to the iPhone 4S.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight, though, just a quick shot. \u00a0Both the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5 share nearly identical hardware&#8230;they are both 8 megapixel sensors on a 1\/3.2&#8243; sensor with a 5 element f\/2.4 lens. \u00a0However, the iPhone 5 has a few tweaks that are supposedly better in low light.<\/p>\n<p>For this shot, I shot with both the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S side by side and shot at the same time. \u00a0The iPhone 5 shot is a little earlier just because it takes shots essentially instantaneously, while the 4S lags a little bit. \u00a0 \u00a0Below are 50% crops from the image. \u00a0iPhone 4S on top, iPhone 5 on the bottom.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, low light shooting is indeed improved a little on the iPhone 5. \u00a0While it obviously won&#8217;t compare to a mirrorless CSC, DSLR or even a high end compact, it doesn&#8217;t fare too poorly. \u00a0There is a little more detail in the iPhone 5 shot, with better separation in her hair, as well as much better contrast. \u00a0Noise is a little better controlled as well. \u00a0Not too bad.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1269\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1269\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/4Sv5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1269\" title=\"4Sv5\" src=\"http:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/4Sv5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"820\" srcset=\"https:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/4Sv5.jpg 600w, https:\/\/admiringlight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/4Sv5-219x300.jpg 219w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1269\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">iPhone 4S vs iPhone 5 low light test. iPhone 4S on top, iPhone 5 on bottom.
