Blossoms in the City

Posted on March 16, 2012March 16, 2012 by Jordan Steele

Continuing to try out the effect I detailed in yesterday’s post, I saw the trees in bloom today and tried it out again.  This is a 64 image stitch with my GH2 and Rokinon 85mm f/1.4.  The resulting image was 465 megapixels.  In the full image, you can see each individual blossom in full detail….

Large Sensor Look from a Small Sensor Camera

Posted on March 15, 2012March 15, 2012 by Jordan Steele

One of the great advantages of using a full frame DSLR or even larger formats such such as 645 or even 4×5 view cameras is that there is a shallow depth of field and extreme background blur component that can’t really be matched on smaller formats such as APS-C or Micro 4/3. For portraits or…

Frantic and Busy

Posted on March 13, 2012 by Jordan Steele

Ahh…that time of year…the weather’s getting warmer, the flowers are soon to start to bloom…and I have almost no time to go out and shoot.  Such is life.  I did get to shoot quite a lot of photos last week, but unfortunately, I am not at liberty to post them.  Here’s hoping with the wonderful…

Adobe Lightroom 4 Released

Posted on March 6, 2012 by Jordan Steele

As I predicted yesterday, Adobe officially released Lightroom 4.  Not a whole lot is different from the public beta, but the big news about the release is that Adobe has slashed the price for Lightroom.  The full version of the program is now $149, while the Upgrade comes in at $79.  For what this program…

Lightroom 4 tomorrow….

Posted on March 5, 2012December 15, 2012 by Jordan Steele

Well, that’s the popular consensus, anyway.  Adobe Lightroom 4 briefly appeared on Amazon as a ‘preorder’ item to ‘be released on March 6.’  Additionally, Adobe is offering 50% off Lightroom 3, ending today.  As a die hard Lightroom user, I’m excited for the upgrade.  I’ve been using the beta since its release, and it’s quite…

Airplanes and Spaceships!

Posted on March 3, 2012March 3, 2012 by Jordan Steele

Ok, it’s not quite as exciting as the title sounds.  I took my daughter to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio today.  Had a nice time.  Unlike a lot of museums, there’s really an opportunity for some interesting photos in this place.  Took my little GX1 and some fast lenses,…

Best Unsung Feature of the Panasonic GX1

Posted on March 1, 2012March 1, 2012 by Jordan Steele

As some of you may have read in my review of the Panasonic GX1, it has a small pop-up flash that can be held back to provide bounce flash for more flattering light.  When I wrote the review, I hadn’t yet really explored all the abilities of this little feature, as I tend to use…

The Future of Casual Photography is Here

Posted on February 27, 2012February 27, 2012 by Jordan Steele

Today at Mobile World Congress, Nokia launched their new 808 PureView.  It’s a smartphone.  A smartphone with a 41 Megapixel camera. I know what you’re thinking.  I thought the same thing:  Those have got to be the worst 41 megapixels in existence. That’s outright absurd.  And then I looked at the images.  This thing is…
