PhotoPlus: Olympus and Panasonic Booths

Posted on October 23, 2015 by Jordan Steele

If you’ve been following my PhotoPlus articles so far, you may note that this post doesn’t headline with ‘Hands-On’.  I did handle some Olympus and Panasonic gear, and I’ll discuss, but frankly, neither Panasonic nor Olympus had any truly new products to try out this year.  A rather hum-drum PhotoPlus from the two Micro 4/3 makers….

Hands-On: Mitakon Booth: 135mm f/1.4, 35mm f/0.95, 25mm f/0.95

Posted on October 22, 2015 by Jordan Steele

I happend upon the Mitakon booth on my way out of PhotoPlus for the day, and saw the newly announced limited edition 135mm f/1.4, and just had to stop.  Along the way, I tried out two other new ultra-fast prime lenses for E-mount and Micro 4/3. Mitakon 135mm f/1.4 This lens, the fastest 135mm available,…

Hands-On: Leica Booth: Leica SL and Leica Q

Posted on October 22, 2015October 23, 2015 by Jordan Steele

Continuing my coverage from day 1 of PhotoPlus Expo in New York comes the news from Leica. Hands-On: Fujifilm Booth: 35mm f/2 WR, 1.4x TC

Posted on October 22, 2015 by Jordan Steele

Fuji has had a pretty quiet PhotoPlus announcement list, with only two new products being announced ahead of the show: the compact XF 35mm f/2 WR and the new 1.4x teleconverter.  I had hands on with both products for a short while. XF 35mm f/2 WR The 35mm f/2 WR is the little brother to…

It’s day one of PhotoPlus Expo and there’s plenty to discuss.  First stop: Sony. The Sliding Scale of Camera Capabilities

Posted on September 6, 2015September 6, 2015 by Jordan Steele

Photography is and always has been a two-sided coin of artistic endeavors.  There’s the artistic component, from which the beauty of photographic concept is derived; where the photographers vision of the world around them is realized in a static frame.  Then there’s the technical side: the process, the equipment, the optics, the developing (which is…

Fuji 56mm f/1.2 vs. Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 vs. Contax G 90mm f/2.8

Posted on August 28, 2015August 31, 2015 by Jordan Steele

Today we have a quick battle of portrait lenses.  Two of them are current mirrorless portrait primes, both of which are extremely highly regarded.  The third lens is a rangefinder lens from the 1990s that is still considered to be an utterly phenomenal optic. The battle: Fuji 56mm f/1.2 vs. Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 vs….

Posted on August 14, 2015August 23, 2015 by Jordan Steele

I just got the new Sony A7R Mark II in for review today, and I’ve only had a few hours to mess around with it.  This is an exciting camera that packs a lot of great features, including a 42 MP sensor into a small package.  There are a lot of great things to discuss…
